Issue: Where should we discard Islamic Literature. A lot of people ask about it. We need to have specially marked bins placed somewhere in the facility and inside Gym during our Dinners and other events so our kids learn from us and we show what we preach. - - Earth friendly Community.
Have a program within our community to help out families in need,( eg. jobless, temporary illness, taking care of elderly, disabled child etc ) to help make our community strong and bring everyone together.

Issue: For many years MCWS is having its Annual Summer Picnic at the same place
Idea: This time lets try something different which brings speakers and community together into an outdoor summer exclursion at a Resort booked for the whole weekened just for MCWS somewhere up north or west side.

Such a website could include:
-Interactive "Giving" section
-Media section - including photos, videos, podcasts, newsletters and links to appropriate film & television programs (such Adam's World, Little Mosque on the Prairie, etc)
-Connection to Non-profits (such as ISPU, Islamic Relief or the hundreds out there - increasing viewership from both sides)
-Canton Community Resources - such as Hospitals, Universities, Services, etc.
-Newcomers Area which would include the above Canton Community Resources. The opportunity for the Township to sponsor or fund this portion greatly increases
-"University Section" for Islamic and/or secular education, including hadeeth, quran or anything such as finance, history, business, fiction. This section can also include reviews on such material (comments). The MCWS library can fit in this category.
-"Serve" Section - What can I do for the community? What activities can I begin or be part of?
-Parents/Kids/Toddler Section - Babysitting resources, tutoring, new parents advice, new parent "kit", etc, links to any site, etc.
-Youth or "Build the Future" Section - including Youth coordinators and all activities associated with MCWS youth groups. This could include mentoring, tutoring, counseling, etc.
-Community Highlights - Celebrating milestones, accomplishments, success stories of our members or national Muslim heroes, etc.
-Submit your idea/project in a display area for members (or anyone) to participate in. This can also turn into a quarterly contest. For example - video clip of tajweed rules or audio clips of stories from the prophet, or article or story written about parenthood, etc. Does not have to be limited to just "Islamic" stuff - but point is it strongly encourages people to express their ideas in an artful way. Several ways you can go with this.

Many, perhaps most, Americans assume Islam was “spread by the sword”. The truth couldn’t be more different! For the most part, Islam spread peacefully from the Middle East to every continent on the earth, and as a result we have a beautifully diverse and rich ummah filled with different cultures, each with their own flavor.
I intend to break the “Islam was spread by the sword” with a butter knife! The plan is to create a community outreach dinner every month of the year outside of Ramadan (so 11 months total), wherein:
1. Food from that culture is cooked and served
2. Muslims from those communities are encouraged to take the lead on displaying their culture
3. An important historical figure to that region is presented briefly via powerpoint as an example of a true Muslim
The purposes of this event are:
1. Create positive, welcoming activities for our non-Muslim neighbors in our mosques
2. Bring in Muslims from the fringe to display their cultures
3. Create a stronger community environment as a whole
The regions in order could possibly be:
1. Gulf
2. Levant
3. Egypt
4. North Africa & Spain
5. West Africa
6. East Africa
7. Turkey/Eastern Europe
8. Persia
9. South Asia
10. Southeast Asia
11. Americas
My goal is to eventually create a website wherein people can download a booklet that is the game-plan for such events and include the stories, recipes, etc. We would need people to help:
1. Create the menus and recipes
2. Research and build powerpoints around famous figures

Use existing space on the West side of the basement Youth Lounge to add ~250 sq. ft of dedicated workout space including freeweight dumbells, a cable machine, a hack squat machine, and benches, balls, and mats. Other equipment can be added later if feasible.

Instead of a Medical/Health Seminar - how about we call for a Day of Fitness in Summer and take our Seniors/Families on a morning walk through the Canton Area Trails or biking for kids etc.....
Our masjid bathrooms need to be cleaned professionally. The family cleaning it needs to be taught how to clean bathrooms. Walls are filthy, toilet seats are dirty. Despite the existing drain on the floor, I doubt the floors are ever "really washed"... The room where cleaning supplies, brooms, mops are stored is filthy as well.. Mops are not cleaned after use. Most outreach programs are focused on adults. What about inviting kids from other churches/communites to spend a day at our masjid working on crafts and other activities. Parents can have a bake sale and talk to the visiting parents while kids play.
I say there should be a boys and girls(if they want) basketball league, which happens every 2 days in a week. There should be a season and playoffs, and the winner gets trophies/medals/prize. This way the brotherhood/sisterhood of many people will come together, and its a good way of exercise.
It would be helpful to encourage young people to lead prayers more often. That way we will know what to do when our time comes up :)
Our community is bless with great doctors and physicians. Why can't we organize a free clinic once a month or once in 4 months for the un-insured / low income people in our community. There are a lot of older parents/unemployed people out here in Canton who otherwise has no contacts or resources. This way doctors can at least diagnose patients give them free advice/referrals/prescriptions if needed. This is similar to ...more »

Women tend to have a lot of stuff when they come to the masjid, purses, baby bags, coats, and their kids' things as well. Maybe there could be a row of coat hooks on the side walls? Oftentimes women's purses get in the way of their own prayer area as well as others. It may help to have an accommodation for these things.

It would be very beneficial if we can have a short khatira after salah, whenever possible. Its nothing new, most masjids have it. I know we have it everyday after fajr, but I see most people/kids coming for Isha. We could atleast start with having it after isha salah. It could be as simple as reading couple of Hadith's like they do at the canton Musallah.

Chairs needed. There are two spots in masjid where chairs are needed. 1- The first spot is by the men shoes area. At least five foldable chairs are needed so that peoples can sit on the chair to put their shoes on easily. 2- The second spot is by the womens area. There should be 5 cahirs available for womens enternace area. 3- Womens enterance area also need shoe rack as well. Womens shoes scatered all over on the floor ...more »

simply if we Muslims are to start donationg non -perishable food items every Jum'a prayers, could mostly benefit the food banks. simply collecting the donated non-perishable foods as surplus to such organizations as forgotten harvest, Muslim family services, muslim center soup kitchens, this in turn will release the financial strain on such organizations to allocate their funds to do more community outreach.
in turn as Dawah front we then introduce our christian brothers, Jewish, Hindu to fight Hunger as humanitarian effort. We Muslims need to be involved , an outreach organization needs to be working full time on benefiting humanity on joint venture with our community. hopefully insha'ALLAH will start having view point on muslims through positive action.

The ambiance of the masjid could use some help. It can feel cold, dark, and a little warehouse-like. We need to invest in some interior design and make it a place of beauty.
I think the gym should be renovated, so there can be better basketball rims, and more. Also I think we should make the gym bigger, so there can be more room in the gym for kids to play and we can have more room, so we can use it as a banquet hall.
A Muslim should not be expected to go to the community center only to pray, volunteer, or attend a lecture. Why not add a "quiet room" and a "not so quiet room" for Muslims to just go and do their own stuff there. A quiet room with comfortable couches or chairs and tables with a WIFI connection where people can just go and work. The not so quiet room for people to meet with a friend or a few friends, or even have some ...more »

The not so quiet room for people to meet with a friend or a few friends, or even have some sort of a meeting there. Have coffee/tea available (free or otherwise). Option to buy snacks etc.
Benefits? Masjid becomes the "hangout" for Muslims. Perhaps arrange for paid baby sitting or a supervised play area at the gym for the kids while their parents can get some work done.
